In conversation, we tend to use the words endurance and perseverance almost interchangeably. But in practice, there’s a notable nuance between enduring and persevering — one that can make a huge difference in how we approach life’s challenges.

Often, we equate healthy rest with getting a good night’s sleep. But in reality, that’s just one factor of the overall rest that the mind and body needs. Multiple studies concur that regular periods of rest — not just sleep — are essential for biological repair, mental health, increased productivity, optimal creativity, and much more.

I hate the winter months. Though I’ve lived in Florida for almost two decades, where even in the winter we have sunshine and warmth, I struggle during this season. Specifically, I struggle with Seasonal Affective Disorder, or SAD.

It's just one of those things you don't think about until it happens to you. Yet it may be happening to you now, and you don't even realize it.

Hurry is not God’s best for leaders. Many are leading under the influence of their stressed-out and overwhelmed lives. We struggle and strive to see God’s call on our lives fulfilled and to reach more people with His message of hope. All the while, we are daily withering under the pressure of family demands, careers, and ministry obligations. There will always be pressure in leadership, but it should never be the place you lead from.

It’s 5:30 a.m., and the alarm begins its shrill alert. Though he’s already been awake for a bit, the day’s tasks begin to loom heavy on the mind of the pastor. The dog needs to be let out, then there are emails to answer and sermon notes to condense. But first, he shuffles to the kitchen for the caffeinated elixir that’ll get his brain firing this early. On the way, he stops to click the remote off, since someone in the house has left the TV on all night, yet again.

Gabe and I were sound asleep when our sixteen-year-old daughter, Kennedy, burst into our room at 1:30 in the morning. Gasping for air and desperate, she cried out, “I need help! I can’t get a breath."
