Member Moment: Natalie's Story

Natalie turned to Medi-Share for support during her cancer journey, finding financial assistance and personal care that exceeded her expectations.

Just in case. Like many members, Natalie approached Medi-Share with a “just in case” mindset. Fourteen years later, “just in case” became “above and beyond” when she faced a major diagnosis.

In 2011, Natalie and her family joined Medi-Share in an effort to reduce household expenses. Her husband was self-employed, and paying for traditional health insurance was becoming more and more costly.

“We were trying to reduce our bills so I could be a stay-at-home mom. I remember thinking that [Medi-Share] was affordable, and we wanted something that would take care of any critical issues that would come up,” Natalie says. “We wanted peace of mind in case something tragic happened. It was a no-brainer.”

She confesses that at the time it felt a bit like a leap of faith, because she didn’t fully understand then how the sharing model worked. But as time went on, her confidence in the sharing process grew. She and her family were generally healthy, so they didn’t need much from the Medi-Share community, but they felt good about their membership because they knew that their monthly shares were supporting people with like-minded biblical values.

Natalie also appreciated the spiritual support she found at Medi-Share. “Member services would always ask if they could pray for me. When I started having health issues, that became even more important for me because you want God’s hand in everything you do, and when you know other people are praying for you—someone who doesn’t even know you—it makes a big difference.”

In 2021, Natalie found out that she had stage one breast cancer. Her doctor performed a lumpectomy to remove the cancer in a single surgery. It was the first time that anyone in her family needed to rely on Medi-Share for something other than basic health issues.

“It was a very easy process. I was pleased, and the bills were taken care of,” Natalie says. “I trusted that Medi-Share would come through, and they came through when I needed them.”

Then in 2025, the cancer came back. This time, she needed a mastectomy. Surgery came with complications that increased her recovery time significantly. When doctors reattached her muscle, they found that there wasn’t enough room on her small frame. This caused issues with the use of her arm, requiring months of rehab with an occupational therapist.

Natalie knew from her first surgery that Medi-Share would be there to support her financially. But this time, they offered even more support: Sarah. Sarah was the care nurse assigned specifically to Natalie’s case. She called regularly to check on Natalie, and she became her one-on-one contact for anything Natalie needed.

When she needed prayer, Sarah was there. When bills hit a snag, Sarah was there. When additional OT appointments needed to be approved, Sarah was there.

“I love that, that Medi-Share assigned someone to me,” Natalie says. “Sarah played a huge role in my recovery. Having a care nurse is extra special, and I think people should know that. She was a relief. It was a huge burden lifted.”

Natalie’s cancer is in remission now, and things are going well. Her arm mobility is improving, and she thinks she may be almost done with occupational therapy. We praise the Lord along with Natalie for his protection, provision and healing.

“My experience was overwhelming wonderful,” she concludes. “I really appreciate Medi-Share. They went above and beyond what I expected.”
