Both Jose and Estrella came to the US from Cuba as children, on a freedom flight and a banana boat, respectively, with nothing but the clothes on their backs.
“It was the best move my parents ever made,” Jose recalled.
Now married for 41 years, the couple has three grown boys, two of which work with them at their small business. Back in 2014, when their insurance premiums skyrocketed, someone told them about Medi-Share and it could not have come at a better time.
Now it has become missional for them to tell others about their healthcare sharing ministry as well as share the love of Christ with their clients.
Receiving a cancer diagnoses in 2015 definitely caught Jose by surprise. He and Estrella have a passion for their work (30 years) and so they appreciated the passion they saw in his doctor. Thankfully, the surgery and treatments were successful and today, Jose is cancer-free!
When asked what he would say to the Members who shared in his medical bills, Jose replied, “Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts. You pray you never need it, but to know your shares went to help us in our time of need is indescribable. When you’re going though such a hard time – to get cards and prayer from other Christians is so uplifting.
“I’m a firm believer [in God],” he continued. “The faith that I had through this ordeal never wavered. Medi-Share was that one other piece of the puzzle that helped me through it.”
