Melissa Howe is a beloved employee here at CCM and a senior member of the process improvement team. Today, she shared a little bit with us about her personal life, professional development, and all the different ways the Lord is working in her life. We know reading her story will encourage you the same way it did for us!
Q: What is your position at CCM?
I am the senior member of the Process Improvement team. Our goal is to partner with different departments and teams to foster a culture of continuous process improvement. We do this by training, mentoring/coaching, leading, and assisting in projects all over the ministry. I am a certified Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, and have a passion for helping others.
Q: How long have you worked here?
Five and half years. I started in New Joiner Billing in August 2015.
Q: What led you to CCM?
After 8 years at my previous employer, I felt God leading me in a different direction. I applied to CCM a couple times earlier in 2015, but it did not go anywhere. I finally applied in July, praying the Lord would make a way or re-direct me (I was “impatiently” waiting on the Lord). The HR specialist called that week. I had an interview with Pastor Jerry and Carol Small the following week and a job offer within days. It has been a wonderful blessing.
Q. What does the Process Improvement team do?
The Process Improvement Team works with all areas of the ministry in an effort to make our processes better for employees and those we serve. We strive to be good stewards of the resources God has given us.
Q: We also hear you are involved in Toastmasters at CCM. Tell us a little about how it’s impacted you?
I am a charter member of the Acts2Speak Toastmasters club here at the ministry. My father was heavily involved in Toastmasters while I was growing up, so I decided to sign up when the opportunity to join the club was announced. I found the club welcoming and supportive, and the Toastmasters community was the same. I quickly joined a community club as well to gain more experience as (at the time) we were all newbies here at CCM. I was able to compete in the area, division, and district contests in 2019, eventually speaking in front of 900 people. Toastmasters has been a blessing in helping this introvert to manage her nerves and come out of her shell.
Q: What‘s your favorite thing to do when you aren’t working?
I like being outside enjoying God’s creation. Whether it is doing something active like golfing, kayaking, hiking, or cycling or just sitting on the porch watching the sunset. I also enjoy cooking/baking wonderful treats for family and friends.
Q: Where were you born?
Melbourne, FL. Yes, I am local but I spent some time in Tampa for college.
Q: How did you come to know God?
I was raised in the church and experienced salvation at a young age. The experience fueled my desire to work in children’s ministry as I know how impactful a Sunday School teacher can be on a young soul.
Q. What else should we know about you?
I married my husband, Christopher, in June of 2019, and we recently purchased our first house together. We share a love of travel and hope to continue traveling the States and abroad when borders open up again. I also enjoy stretching my culinary skills in the kitchen, much to Chris’s delight.
