The Best Bug To Catch
Did you know that there is a type of contagion that you simply can’t get enough of? I’m not talking about the viruses or infections that your kids catch at every playdate all winter long. I’m talking about Generosity - the act of spreading kindness and goodwill to everyone around you. There are seven different ways to share this fun bug - so keep reading!
When you catch the Generosity Bug, you can’t help but pass it along. And the best part? It will continue to spread far beyond what you can ever hope or imagine. You don’t have to worry about warning your friends and family about the spread! They will welcome it.
Why Generosity?
Generosity is a bug worth catching. It changes the way that you interact with the world around you. It ushers in hope and help. Here at I Like Giving, we believe that you have the power to live generously NOW. Every day, I Like Giving inspires families, kids, and leaders to live generously with who they are and what they have. So wherever you are in life, and whatever is going on, don’t be afraid to lean into that spirit of Generosity that you feel welling up within you. You’re choice to live generously not only impacts those around you - it improves your health.
Countless scientific studies have shown that Generosity promotes health and well-being in numerous ways. You’ll live longer, take less medicine, and increase your happiness. Did you know that the Cleveland Clinic reports, “There is evidence that, during gift-giving behaviors, humans secrete “feel-good” chemicals in our brains, such as serotonin (a mood-mediating chemical), dopamine (a feel-good chemical), and oxytocin (a compassion and bonding chemical)?” Let’s start passing this goodness around!
Beyond science though, we know that Jesus, The Greatest Giver of all, has blessed us so we can be generous to others. 2 Corinthians 9:11 (NIV) says, “You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.”
You were created for generosity - body, mind, and spirit!
7 Ways of Living Generously - What Does This Actually Mean?
Here at I Like Giving, we start with our youngest friends and encourage them that generosity means to give and share and show you care!
Now, that’s a definition and a way of living that we can all get behind. Did you know there are 7 ways to live generously? We teach these 7 ways as our framework to help kids and adults understand the Generous Life through our newest program, Generous Students: Homeschool Edition.
The 7 Ways of Living Generously are:
Generous Thoughts - The way you think about yourself and the way you think about others.
Generous Words - The way you speak about yourself and the way you speak about others.
Generous Time - The way you share the minutes, hours, and moments in your day.
Generous Attention - The way you are fully present and fully focused on another person; avoiding distractions.
Generous Money - The way you give of your financial resources.
Generous Influence - The way you use your friendships, relationships, and connections to help someone else.
Generous Belongings - The way you share the things you have.
The best part? You can start right now! You don’t have to wait until you’re older, have more money, or have your life in order to be a giver.
You Just Have to Start
Generosity is always good but it may not always be easy. Sometimes giving to those around you won’t go exactly how you planned. But, deciding you want to be a giver is the first place to start.
