What is an Annual Household Portion (AHP)?

Medi-Share's Annual Household Portion (AHP) is a preselected amount that defines your household’s responsibility toward eligible medical expenses within a given 12-month period before sharing begins.

The Annual Household Portion (AHP) in Medi-Share is a key component of this health care sharing program. It represents the amount a member household agrees to pay toward their eligible medical bills within a 12-month period before those bills are eligible for sharing among other members. Essentially, it functions similarly to a deductible in traditional insurance.

Here are some key points about the AHP:

  1. Selection of AHP Level: Members choose an AHP level that aligns with their budget and healthcare needs. Options typically range from $3,000 to $12,000. A higher AHP results in lower monthly share amounts but requires more out-of-pocket responsibility before sharing begins.

  2. How It Works: Once the AHP is met, 100% of eligible medical bills are processed for sharing. For example, if a household selects a $3,000 AHP, they are responsible for covering $3,000 of eligible medical expenses before Medi-Share members share the remaining costs.

  3. Provider Fees: Members pay a provider fee for each visit—$35 for doctor or hospital visits and $200 for ER visits. These fees are not applied toward the AHP.

  4. Reset Period: The AHP resets annually based on the membership's effective date or when a member switches AHP levels.

  5. Community Sharing: Even if a member does not meet their AHP, their monthly contributions help other members with their medical needs, fostering a sense of community and shared responsibility.

Medi-Share is not insurance but a health care sharing ministry where members share medical expenses in alignment with Christian values
