As a former stunt performer, Paul F. is no stranger to taking risks. But when it comes to health care for their young family, Paul and his wife Miranda know that it’s about more than just having a safety net.
Around seven years ago, Paul and Miranda were looking at options for health care, and they became intrigued by the sharing model at Medi-Share. Working freelance meant that there was no corporate insurance available for them, so out-of-pocket costs were a primary factor in their decision. The couple was also attracted to the biblical idea of helping to bear the burdens of fellow believers, as well as the knowledge that their monthly shares would not support things that they didn’t consider healthcare.
“I thought, ‘Wow, this makes a lot of sense,’” Paul says, and they decided to join the Medi-Share community shortly thereafter.
Since that time, Paul and Miranda have been blessed to welcome three kids to their family, two of whom were born during the concerning period of COVID. Paul recalls the genuine joy of the Medi-Share staff and the streamlined integration of maternity care. He says he received emails that walked him through processes like adding a newborn to his household. Things that needed to happen were made easy and accessible, which Paul considered a great comfort during times of change and uncertainty.
“It was all so pleasantly helpful,” he says.
Paul often compares notes with friends in regard to health care, especially during this season of having babies and raising young kids. One friend who had a different type of health care was recently expressing frustration over medical bills that kept coming in without any explanation of the charges. It reminded Paul of the contrast at Medi-Share, where he easily tracks medical bills after they’ve been processed for sharing.
“Being able to see all your bills in the Medi-Share portal is amazing,” he says. “Otherwise, I don’t know how you’d check your medical bills. They’d just come whenever they come.”
Other friends have mentioned having to switch doctors in order to ensure payment by their health care companies. But Paul appreciates that he and his family are able to choose their own providers. As Medi-Share members, they are able to see in-network providers, but bills are still shared if they choose a doctor who is out of network as well.
“Every aspect, from the financial aspect to the logistics of handling everything to the attitude of everyone, the whole thing has been really cool,” Paul says. “We’ve never had anything negative at all. It’s lightyears better.”
Paul has transitioned in his career from stunt performer to ghostwriter. He loves helping people tell their stories, from billionaires and spies to athletes and educators. But he also loves telling their family’s story of Medi-Share membership. He regularly shares their positive experience with family, friends and acquaintances. When asked what he’d say to someone considering Medi-Share, he stops for a moment, then says:
“The financial part is great. But what becomes more appealing as time goes on is the fact that you really feel like you’re helping. We are all going to be in need at some point. [As a community,] we’re all just working together to put a little bit away, effectively, because we know somebody is going to need help this month. That’s how it’s supposed to be. It’s really cool to be a part of that.”
Instead of a safety net, Paul and Miranda have found safety in numbers, so to speak. We’re so grateful they are a part of our Medi-Share community.
