Cathrine's Story

Catherine: We own our own business. So we didn't have any insurance that was given to us. And we were spending thousands of dollars a month. I mean, over $2000 a month. We had $1,300 deductibles per person. I was listening to, I believe, 107.9, which is a local radio station. And I heard the advertisement from Medi-Share and it sounded fascinating. And I presented it to my husband who said, "This is crazy. It sounds too good to be true. It's nerve wracking. We've got three children. We have UnitedHealthcare. This is crazy." And I said, "Well, we need to save money. We own our own business and we need to make some changes so we can save money." And when I was exposed to Medi-Share, there weren't any other groups doing what Medi-Share did that I could find. I know that a lot of companies popped up and started copying Medi-Share and mimicking Medi-Share. And they're not Medi-Share and they don't do what Medi-Share does.

We took the risk and it was a risk at the time because we didn't have any friends that were on it. We just trusted the people that we had talked to at the corporate headquarters. We went through every normal childhood illness and injury, emergency room visits, et cetera, et cetera, and had no issues whatsoever with Medi-Share. 2013 was the first year that we became members and I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in October of 2017. I actually did, I think, two CTs and an MRI, which Medi-Share paid for, even though I probably didn't need three scans at that point. I had blood markers that were consistent with ovarian cancer. I had scans that were consistent with ovarian cancer. And I'd already been told that the surgery was at minimum of $120,000.00, just for the surgeon alone because of the hours and the type and all the different surgeries that were happening at one time.

So I did have trepidation, but I trusted God and there was no reason for me to have trepidation ever. Whenever I called Medi-Share, there was just no issue. And that's how I feel, I really do feel that Medi-Share's an ally and you don't feel like that with traditional insurance. But you do with Medi-Share. I never had to be concerned about bills or reconciling bills or angry or irritable people or being on hold for hours on end. The only thing that I had to be concerned about was getting better. Every time I called with any number of questions, they were always legitimate questions in the eyes of Medi-Share. And the prayers, I mean, the prayers were always and are always authentic. And those experiences, those prayers, got me through. It was just unbelievable. It was unbelievable. It's such a proof of God's activity in Medi-Share. And God is behind Medi-Share, and it's evident with the prayers.

When I hear of people with traditional insurance companies, if they want to qualify for something they perhaps are on the borderline for, it's the insurance companies that holds them up. And I didn't have any issue with Medi-Share at all. I mean, Medi-Share was, "How can we pay for it? How can we get it paid for so you don't have a problem?" I had absolutely zero stress from Medi-Share with this disease. I used to hate paying a medical bill to the big insurance companies because I paid them and then I kept paying out of pocket, and then I kept paying for out of network, and I just kept paying and paying and paying and paying. And with Medi-Share, it's like a tie, you're paying towards helping someone else. It's not insurance. It's way more than insurance. And until you try it, you'll never see or understand the community that Medi-Share is.
