The holidays can be exciting and difficult at the same time, particularly for a Christian who is single. Even though there is a lot of happiness and celebration, loneliness or the need for company can also arise. Here are some pointers for making the most of this season rather than just getting by.
Make Your Own Customs. You are free to establish your own traditions for the holidays. This could be anything from assembling a nativity scene at home to baking a special dessert or going to a Christmas market. Regardless of your relationship status, these customs will add a special touch to your holiday celebrations.
Psalm 25:16-17
“Turn to me and be gracious to me, for I am lonely and afflicted. Relieve the troubles of my heart and free me from my anguish.”
Discover Happiness in Giving. Giving is about a main tenant of the holiday season. Being a single Christian gives you the chance to give your time and resources to benefit others. Here are a few methods for achieving that:
Philippians 2:3-4
“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.”
Take Care of Yourself. Amidst the hustle and bustle of the holidays, remember to look after yourself. Make sure you're maintaining your exercise regimen, eating a healthy diet, and getting enough sleep. Recognize when you're feeling overwhelmed or alone. Discuss your feelings with a counselor, family member, or trusted friend. And offer prayers for joy, peace, and strength.
Psalm 147:3
“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”
Never forget that God is with you despite your single status. Have faith in God's flawless plan. Never forget that God is with you despite your single status. Your happiness or value is not determined by your single status.
Isaiah 41:10
“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
Take this time to get closer to God. Here are some practical tips:
Psalm 25:14
“The friendship of the LORD is for those who fear him, and he makes known to them his covenant.”
It's not a survival game having to be single over the holidays. It can be a time of joy, development, and strengthened faith if the appropriate attitude and deeds are adopted. Therefore, enjoy being single, spend time with loved ones, establish new traditions, take care of yourself, find joy in giving, and most importantly, have faith in God's plan!
